Can a quotation make up a thesis statement?

I need to write an essay and i was wondering if my thesis statement could be a famous quotation? Can a quotation make up a thesis statement?
It can help your thesis statement, but it cannot be your thesis statement. A thesis is basically like a theory you want to try to prove, or it could be something you want to convince people of, quotes can't do much of that. All a quote can do is introduce your thesis and/or essay. Can a quotation make up a thesis statement?
yes you can use a quotation as an introduction to your thesis statement as long as it is pertinent to the theme of your thesis.a quotation by voltair comes to mind ie if your essay was about the revoloutionary war when writing in france he said ';god is not on the side of the big battalions but the side with the best shots';in referring to the numbers of the enemies gathered against the young french republic
Yes, but you need to cite your source and be prepared to explain the quotation perfectly.
